Classification of dolomite

2025-06-13 15:06:46

Dolomite is a mineral widely found in nature. Its classification is mainly based on factors such as genesis and chemical composition. According to the formation stage and composition, dolomite can be divided into many types:

Syngenetic dolomite: dolomite formed in the early stage of sedimentary diagenesis, with uniform and dense structure and fine grain size.

Diagenetic dolomite: dolomite formed by the replacement of calcium carbonate by magnesium ions during diagenesis, with fine-grained structure and replacement traces.

Epigenetic dolomite: dolomite formed by the replacement of magnesium ions by limestone that has been consolidated into diagenesis, with uneven replacement structure and coarse dolomite grain size.
