China's energy consumption structure of "rich in coal, poor in oil, and little gas" has made coal-fired power occupy an absolute dominant position in my country's power system for a long time. In the past two decades, coal-fired power has experienced ups and downs in its development.

In recent years, the installed capacity of renewable energy has continued to increase, but it has not effectively alleviated the "power shortage" problem in some provinces. The fundamental reason is that the effective capacity reserve of the power system is insufficient and cannot respond to the continuous growth of the maximum load of the power system in a timely manner. With the in-depth promotion of the construction of the new power system, coal-fired power has entered a period of growth recovery since 2023. In order to alleviate the various problems caused by the insufficient effective capacity of the system, various regions have re-planned coal-fired power construction, and its installed capacity has rebounded.
