(1) Classification of kaolin
Kaolin in the north (coal-rich provinces such as Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia) is mainly coal-based kaolin, which is mainly used as paper filler, rubber filler, and low- and medium-end ceramics after being ground into powder; in the south (Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hunan, Jiangxi, etc.), it is mainly non-coal-based kaolin, and the finished powder is mainly used for high-end ceramics, paper coating filler, catalyst carrier, etc.
(2) Characteristics and applications of kaolin
As a key non-metallic mineral resource, kaolin has a wide range of applications. Pure kaolin has high whiteness, soft texture and easy dispersion and suspension in water, excellent plasticity and adhesion, outstanding electrical insulation properties, good acid solubility, low cation exchange capacity, and high refractoriness. These unique properties make kaolin an indispensable material in industries such as ceramics, refractory materials, papermaking, rubber, petrochemicals, and paints and coatings.
