Introduction to Carbon Cathode Materials for Aluminum

2025-08-26 16:51:04

Aluminum carbon cathodes primarily include cathode blocks and cathode paste. Cathode blocks are a typical cathode material for aluminum and are used in the bottom and sides of electrolytic cells. They are made from raw materials such as high-quality anthracite, high-quality petroleum coke, pitch coke, and graphite flakes. These raw materials undergo mixing, shaping, and roasting processes to form block or paste carbon materials, including standard cathodes, graphite cathodes, and graphitized cathodes.

Cathode paste is a paste-like carbon material used to fill cathode gaps and cathode steel rods. It uses aggregates such as calcined coal, calcined coke, spent anode, metallurgical coke, and dust collection powder, with a mixture of coal pitch and coal tar as a binder.
